It is nearly that time of the year again for Ateneans, especially the seniors, to be excited to explore and realize different employment and internship opportunities offered by the different companies present during the in-campus career fair. This year’s career fair, in partnership with PLDT-SMART brings to us the theme “Making Strong Connections to the Future”; and rightfully so, company representatives, students, and guests were given an opportunity to get acquainted and build connections during the Career Fair Gala Night.
The Career Fair Gala Night held on the 5th floor of the Ateneo Rizal Library last Friday, February 10, 2017, marks the official start of the career fair event. The Gala Night is a culmination of representatives from different sponsors and partner companies, student leaders representing their respective organizations, and special guests. The Gala Night is a great start for participants to make strong connections that would surely benefit all parties in the future.
The Career Fair Gala Night was hosted by Ateneo alumni and currently a systems trainer in PLDT Vincent Benedicto and Ateneo UAAP courtside reporter Denice Dinsay. Followed by the introduction of a long list of sponsors and partnering companies of this year’s Ateneo Career Fair, our very own director of the Loyola Schools Office of Placement and Career Services, Ms. Carla Siojo, gave the opening remarks. In her heartwarming speech, she thanked everyone for attending the event despite of the heavy traffic congestions along Katipunan Avenue. She also made an emphasis on the importance of the career fair week both for students and employers.
Next to give a speech was Mr. Piercelen Bayani, a First Vice President from Smart. He reminded everyone of the long lasting relationship between the PLDT-Smart group to the Ateneo de Manila University, showing their support for different Ateneo sports varsity teams throughout the years. He also presented the reality of the world today, wherein everything is digital. In a world that is always online, Mr. Bayani informed everyone of how PLDT-Smart was able to cope with the fast changing world and continually creating great innovations and staying ahead.
Afterwards, the Loyola Schools Office of Placement and Career Services Students Arm President Mr. Renato Labadan and Smart Communications Inc Junior Brand Manager Mr. Juan Miguel De Leon gave their inspiring speeches. Both speakers made a strong emphasis on the importance of making strong connections as early as today and the benefits they had gotten from participating in previous career fairs. Mr. De Leon also informed everyone how change is inevitable in the world we live in today. He also showed an example of how Smart Communications was able to capture the interests of masses with one of their marketing campaign.
After the closing remarks by Vice President for the Loyola Schools Dr. Maria Luz Vilches, dinner was served and the networking session for students, guests, and company representatives began. Overall, the event was a huge success. In the beginning of the event, participants were encouraged to tweet out their thoughts on the event on twitter with the hash tag #OneBigFuture. Students responded with tweets such as “May we all find our ikigai (a reason for being)” and “Looking forward to better understanding my career options at the Ateneo Career Fair!” In the end, every participant left the event satisfied. Students were able to take advantage of the opportunity by talking to multiple company representatives about job opportunities in their respective industries while company representatives got a glimpse on the prospects that they will be working with in the future.
